The PLAN Adoption Agency (Plan Loving Adoptions Now) is a 30 year old, private, non profit, Christian agency that provides 24 hours a day access, statewide, to families facing an unplanned pregnancy. Crisis counselors are located in communities all over the State.   Lynda Merrill's job as a crisis counselor for the Agency, is to be available to immediately meet with birth parents in Central Oregon to provide free, non-judgmental help for them to look at their options.  Lynda has worked in this field for 28 years in Bend, the last 20 with PLAN and can be contacted at Lynda11842@aol.com or 541-389-1820

The KIDS Center (ages birth - 18 years).  Medical evaluations and therapy treatment for children who have been sexually, physically, or emotionally abused, or who have witnessed domestic violence. Services include medical evaluations, child-friendly interviews, and therapy/counseling services. At no cost to child or family.  Eligibility: medical evaluations for child abuse victims from Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson Counties and their family members; therapy treatment for children from Deschutes County. M. O. P. S. (Mothers of Preschoolers) A time for mothers of young children to make new friends and receive a break from preschoolers. Program supports families with children ages 6 weeks to 3 years who are experiencing high stress. Parents learn to deal with a variety of teen issues, such as solving problems, arguing, effective discipline, anger, setting age appropriate rules and limits, peer pressure, skipping school, and alcohol and other drug use.

Grandma’s House of Central Oregon, Inc. (ages 12 - 19 years).  Provides safe, nurturing, stable shelter to homeless and/or abused pregnant teens (whether choosing parenting or adoption), and teen mothers with their babies. Assists residents in continuing their education, planning personal goals, and working toward independence. The following workshops are offered to all pregnant and parenting teens (both residents and non-residents):  Childbirth Education for Pregnant Teens and Their Support Persons - Topics include diet, personal responsibility for the health of mothers and their unborn, stages of pregnancy, stages of labor, the birth process, coping skills for labor and birth, and after baby and breastfeeding.  Parenting for Pregnant and Parenting Teens and Their Partner - Topics include developing milestone of growth, having fun with your children, nurturing parent routines, personal power and ways to build positive feelings towards self.

Therapeutic Riding

Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center.  Offers the therapeutic benefits of being on and around horses to children and adults with physical, mental, and emotional challenges, and at-risk youth. The Center also offers Hippotherapy (physical therapy on horseback), which is done by licensed physical therapists. The Center relies on trained staff, instructors, and volunteers to work with the riders and horses. Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Oregon.  Matches youths in Deschutes County ages 6-15 years with positive adult role models. Each youth in need of quality adult attention is matched with a screened adult mentor who provides consistent guidance and support. Child Welfare Program (was Services to Children and Families).  Offers comprehensive services dedicated to the safety and care of children ages 0 - 17 years. Services include foster care. Bend - Youth Enhancement Services (Y.E.S.) - First offender division program to divert first time misdemeanants and class C felons from the more formal juvenile court/probation process.  Some of the services they offer are on teaching youths the decision-making process, providing law-related education, individual counseling, monitoring school progress and acting as a support system for youths and parents. La Pine - La Pine Youth Diversion Services is a program that serves youths ages 7-17 years in all of south county.  They generally serve first time offenders, but can include those at risk of becoming offenders.  They offer counseling, referral to appropriate resources, law-related education and opportunities for youths to participate in the Teen Court Program.  Call Mary Fleischmann at 536-5002 for more information.
