Autism Symptoms Identical to Those of Mercury Poisoning,
According to New Ad from Parents of Autistic Children
New York Times Ad Part of Larger Campaign to
Show Other Parents
that Autism is Reversible by Removing Mercury from Children’s
Bodies
On Wednesday June 8, Generation
Rescue, a nonprofit organization of parents of autistic children, will
run a full-page advertisement in the New York Times showing the
identical symptoms of autism and childhood mercury poisoning. This is
the second full-page advertisement in a national newspaper from the
organization in the past three weeks.
The print ads, as well as Internet advertising, are part of a
campaign to help other parents learn the truth about the connections
between autism and mercury poisoning. Generation Rescue parents are
successfully treating their children biomedically and removing mercury
from their bodies through a safe and proven detoxification treatment
known as chelation therapy.
“Every
day, another 50 kids are diagnosed with autism,” said J.B. Handley, fath
er of an
autistic child and a founding parent of Generation Rescue. “Too often
the parents receiving this life-changing news are not aware of the real,
medical treatments available to reverse autistic symptoms. The parents,
and media, are also not aware of the growing number of physicians,
researchers, elected officials and other leaders who have mounting
evidence to lead this fight."
The
advertisement includes quotes from numerous leaders who recognize
mercury as the potential cause for autism, including key Republicans and
Democrats in Congress. A central message in the ad is a how the symptoms
of autism and those of mercury poisoning in children are identical,
confirming the mounting evidence that the similarities are more than
just coincidence. Those symptoms include loss of speech, social
withdrawal, reduced eye contact, repetitive behaviors, temper tantrums,
hand flapping and toe walking, sleep disturbances and seizures.
“The symptoms of early
infant mercury poisoning and autism are virtually the same,” said Dr.
Boyd Haley, chairman of the chemistry department at the University of
Kentucky. “Furthermore, research indicates that autistic children
genetically have a harder time excreting mercury from their bodies. This
is why chelation has become such a powerful key for unlocking and
undoing the disorders associated with autism."
Chelation
(KEY-lay-shun) has been used for decades to detoxify people of dangerous
levels of heavy metals, due to industrial accidents or other causes.
According to the CDC, 60,000 Americans underwent some form of chelation
last year, and the therapy is currently under clinical trial with heart
disease patients. In autism treatments, chelating “agents” may be
administered orally or transdermally (through the skin). Once in the
bloodstream, the chelating agent binds to heavy metals and removes them
from the body.
“When we realized that
our son’s autism was nothing more than mercury poisoning, the next step
for treatment was clear,” said Handley, one of the organization’s
founding parents and father of a son diagnosed with autism. “With the
removal of mercury, Jamie’s autistic symptoms melt away.

Getting the mercury out is
giving us our son back.
The advertisement also encourages parents, the media and doctors to
read journalist David Kirby’s new investigative book, Evidence of
Harm, which explores how a mercury preservative in vaccines –
Thimerosal – has been linked to the autism epidemic. Publishers
Weekly gave the book three stars, calling it “one of the most
thoroughly researched accounts of the Thimerosal controversy thus
far."
In
the book, Kirby cites studies that further indicate a connection
between autism and mercury poisoning, such as:
• Autistic children retain mercury at much higher rates than
non-autistic kids and lack certain sulfur-based proteins that help
remove them from the body.
• Autistic children have a dysfunctional immune profile
generally consistent with mercury toxicity.
• The rate of increase in reported autism cases peaked between
1987 and 1992, the same years that seven mercury-containing vaccines
were added to the U.S. schedule.
• Children who live near mercury-spewing power plants have an
elevated risk of developing autism.

Autism
Parents Campaign Against W
By Paul H.B. Shin for the New
York Daily News
www.nydailynews.com/06-07-2005/news/story/316541p-270817c.html
A coalition of parents with autistic children is launching a
stinging lobbying campaign against President Bush today, accusing him of
reneging on a campaign-trail promise to ban mercury from vaccines.
The
group, Unlocking Autism, will deliver letters to the White House and
Capitol Hill, urging Bush and lawmakers to prohibit use of Thimerosal, a
vaccine preservative that contains mercury.
Whether mercury actually causes autism is still disputed among
scientists but advocates note autism has been rising dramatically in the
past 20 years.
"Regardless of whether it causes autism, mercury is toxic and it
shouldn't be put into children's bodies," said Shelley Hendrix-Reynolds,
36, whose son, Liam, 9, is autistic. "There's a safer alternative."
In
September 2004, advocates asked Bush to state his position on
Thimerosal. Bush responded, "I support the removal of Thimerosal from
vaccines" for children, and pledged to increase funding for autism
research.
But
when Hendrix-Reynolds met with officials from the White House and the
U.S. Health and Human Services in May, her group got the cold shoulder,
she said. "I think if somebody says they're going to do something, they
should do it," she said.
Thimerosal is being phased out in certain vaccines, but it is still used
in some flu shots and other medicines. The campaign being launched today
includes a series of posters accusing Bush of flip-flopping on the
issue.
The
group's move comes as New York Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (D-Nassau)
is to introduce legislation to ban sale of products that contain
Thimerosal. He said there's wide, bipartisan support in Albany.

New Yorkers Action Alert
– "We Won Another Round!"
An A-Champ announcement from John Gilmore.
Assemblymember Harvey Weisenberg's bill A 5543 which would limit
thimerosal in vaccines for kids under three and pregnant women, passed
the NY Assembly health committee with the support of committee Chairman
Richard Gottfried! The bill will have to go to the Codes committee,
however, we were sponsored by the Codes Committee Chair Joseph Lentol so
I think things should go well there. I also believe we will do well on
the Assembly floor.
Now we need to focus on the Senate health
committee, where committee Chair Kemp Hannon is not inclined to support
our bill.
Here's what you can do:
Call your NY State senator and ask them in a
polite and respectful way to work to pass S 2707, State Senator Dean
Skelos's bill to limit mercury in vaccines.
And contact Senator Hannon and ask him in a
polite and respectful way to support the bill and send it to the floor
where I believe the Senate as a whole will support it.
Here's Senator Hannon's contact info:
